What to Bring: Essential Gear & Preparation
To ensure you capture the best possible images, here is our recommended packing list for this expedition.
Camera Gear
- Body & Support: A DSLR or Mirrorless camera with a sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release (essential for long exposures and low-light scenes).
- Wide Angle Lens: (e.g., Nikkor 14-24mm or Canon 17-40mm). The best lens for wide scenic shots, rice terraces, and architecture.
- Mid-Range Zoom: (e.g., 24-70mm). Perfect for environmental portraits and street photography in craft villages.
- Telephoto Zoom: (e.g., 70-200mm). One of the most important lenses for this tour. It allows you to compress the layers of the Long Coc tea hills and isolate subjects in the rice fields. Tip: Be sure to have an additional tripod mount ring for this lens.
- Drone: Vietnam is spectacular from the air.
- Rental Option: You can hire a drone in Vietnam (approx. $40 USD/day for a DJI Mavic 2 Pro).
- Support: During the tour, you will be supported by a leader experienced in operating drones to ensure safe flight paths and best angles.
Clothing (Wear)
The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Prepare for cooler nights (average +10°C to +20°C).
- Outer Layer: Waterproof and windproof jacket.
- Bottoms: Waterproof pants (essential for misty mornings) and thermal pants.
- Warmth: Warm jacket/fleece.
- Footwear: Wellingtons (rubber boots) or fishing boots are highly recommended for muddy fields and riverbanks.
- Casual: Comfortable clothes for dinners, lunches, and photography workshops.
